There are three common reasons why virtual hands may not appear:
1. Low battery or pairing error
Check if the controller is ON and charged. When the controller is ON, the LED indicator shows:
- Green: Ready for use
- Blue: Searching for the headset
- Blue flashing: In pairing mode (press "App" and "System" buttons simultaneously to activate)
- Red flashing: Low battery
- Orange: Charging (changes to white when complete)
- Off: Controller is powered off
2. Controllers not tracked or out of sensor range
Open the SteamVR dashboard and check if the controllers are recognized:
- Green icon: Controller is tracked and working properly
- Gray icon: Controller is turned off, not tracked, out of base station line of sight, or in pairing mode
Check the LED indicators on your controllers to determine their current status.
3. Steam client version mismatch
If your controllers work in SteamVR but virtual hands disappear after launching Vivid Vision, update your Steam client:
- Launch Steam
- Click "File"
- Click "Check for Steam Client Updates"
- Steam will automatically apply any available updates
