The amber light can appear on the headset for variety of reasons most of which is due to a display related issue. Below are troubleshooting steps that you can take to determine the root cause of the issue.
- Verify that the cable is connected to the add-on graphics card.
- Check to make sure that the HDMI connection on the this is usually located on the back of the computer. This add-on card is separate from the main connection panel where the mouse/keyboard.
- Verify that the end of the combo cable that is attached to the headset is securely connected.
- If you have verified that the HDMI is connected to the computer and the Rift still has no display, then you can try reconnecting the part of the cable that goes directly into the headset.
- Detach the foam lining and then pull cable up until you see the plastic base of the connector.
- Once the connector is out part way, insert it back into the headset so that the top of the connector is flush with the headset. the LED light on the headset should go from amber to white which means that the headset is now ready to be used.
